Foundation Portfolio - Preliminary Task

Producing a college Magazine front page and contents page

As this is the beginning of the foundation Portfolio, I am looking the key madia concepts which i will be applying to the production of my magazine front cover and the contents page. I use an acronym LIIAR, which stands for Language; Institution; Idiology; Audience and Representation.
-

Language:
Layout; such things as headlines, logos, subheadings, pictures, proportions, information about the magazine, and most importantly, text (contents of the magazine). Take into account how each of these things are shown or used to make sure the end result has the effect you want it to.
-

Institution:
I am working as if I am working for the college. This means that many opinions of how the magazine should turn out would have to be taken into account. I am working as if i have had requests from people within the college; students and teachers. This means that the final products would be suitable for the majority of people, rather than the minority because I have an idea of what they want.
-

Ideology:
As I am making a paper aimed at people/students from Wyke College, i have to make sure that the messages of respect, equality and opportunity is shown within the paper. This is important as it shows what values and beliefs the college has and how it feels a good community should be.
-

Audience:
As its a magazine made for a college, the most obvious audience would be the students. Students can range from many ages though, so specifically, the magazine is aimed at people ages16-19. With the audience, as well, we have to take into account the ratio of female to males, as there are substantially more female opposed to males, being as 64% of Wyke College students are female. This means that the magazine is going to be more about feminine things, as there are going to be more females reading it.
-

Representation
:
The readers of the magazine have to see in a few ways, or that's what I would be hoping for it was being made for real. I would want them to see it as a source of information about the college e.g. events, open evenings, opportunities etc. I would also want them to see it as a form of entertainment, as it will be holing stories and things such as horoscopes etc. In addition to this, I would want people reading it to feel like they have freedom of speech, in a way that they can contribute to the magazine, as in tips, stories, achievements, problems etc.
I also want it to appear as a positive magazine, this will probably shown throw pictures and the story title/description.
