Textual Analysis of 'Closer Magazine'

The picture above is of another well known magazine, aimed at people in there teens, or young adults, and specifically aimed at females. It shows a few of the famous icons that are captured for magazine stories all the time, i.e. Victoria Beckam and Charlotte Church. The most well known or recognised one though, is Victoria Beckam, and this is shown by the magazine, by the way the make her picture bigger, and more dominant over the rest. In addition to this, the tag line to her story, 'New baby on the way!', is much bolder in comparison to the others, and stands out far more than the others, making it very clear that the main story of this issue of the magazine is focusing on Victoria Beckam's preganancy.

Although this magazine is fairly similar to that of the 'Now magazine', is could also appeal to a wider population, due to the fact it not only has stories about famous icons; which would real in the younger population, as they are more about what is happening in the show biz world, but also has true life stories; which would catch the eye of the older woman, as they much more prefer to read about things that are happening in the real world around them,

One thing that supports the fact that this magazine is a very well known one is that the name of the it, is slightly covered by one of the story titles. This shows that the producers of the magazine know that the popularity and audience of the magazine is strong enough to be able to not have to show or flaunt what it is, as people are fully aware of what magazine it is. Another reason I think that this magazine is a popular as it is, is because the producers of it, to my knowledge, dont make any other magazine, so they have to put all their time, effort and ability of making a good production into it.

The obvious explicit values of this magazine would be that it wants to make people aware of the life of others. Its telling the readers how other people live their life, and its informing them on how others deal with their problems, and what happens in the life. Not only is it parading around the latest information about celebrities for the younger generation to read about, but it also includes things like suggestions to situations and real life stories that the older generation can relate to.

The pictures on this front cover of Closer, are all paparrazzi shots. This shows that the people (celebrities), possibly aren't aware that they are been photographed and maybe don't want to be. Although this is true, the magazine chooses to do this because it adds realism to the magazine, and allows the reader to relate to it a little more, by ot showing them in real life situations, instead of the usual shots of them that are done in photo shoots and are strictly directed.
